As for being stupid in college, it has ...Hi T d Y,

As for being stupid in college, it has only gotten much worse, as you well know.

I had little patience for college bullshit, so couldn't even get my bachelor's. Now, I'm sometimes asked to teach a writing class or two, and I try my best not to waste my students' time and money.

Just this morning, I got an email from a French student I met in Leipzig last year. He was never in my class. We met after a public talk I gave.

Léo Jarzabek:

A year’s ending and I think I’ve learnt a ton of things thanks to you, not that I share all your views or think that you’re the sanest man in the universe.

But I just wanted to express my gratitude, you opened my eyes on things, now when I see people running to McDonald’s I now think about how brainwashed we are, and how america’s strong arms are used to feed us shit food and collect our data to make us perfect slaves fucking in virtual reality.

[...]

I’m good in France, my internship was terrible and the 3 months after I left Leipzig,

were beyond hard and pretty terrible for my body and mind, I lost weight, started smoking, drank too much, found myself as a complete wreck by the summer. But I graduated with honors.

[...]

I hope you’re doing fine in Philly sir, I read people of the abyss by Jack London and I felt even more honored of having met his vietnamese grandchild.

I replied:

I'm very happy to hear from you, buddy! Yes, the first few years after college are the hardest, especially since college all over the West has been turned into a sheltered playground where you get indoctrinated and shielded from harsh realities.

You survived it!

The turbulence in Europe will intensify, and nationalism will increasingly become more dominant. According to all of your professors, nationalism is fascism, but that's nonsense. Africans and Asians used nationalism to kick out Colonialism. Nationalism is just unity among any people sharing a common language, heritage and, most often, genetic makeup, something no one wants to talk about any more in the West, but the Chinese, Vietnamese, Indians and Arabs are deeply aware of.

Anyway, you will do fine, man, for you're brilliant and open. Life experience will toughen you up and make you more sexy to the chicks, so embrace the turbulence. Remember our talk about Céline? He was one tough motherfucker and dodged nothing. Be like Céline.

Didn't you tell me your dad loves Houellebecq? Read him, if you haven't. He's looking at the world as it is without flinching.

Linh Dinhhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00328959360983573810noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4284893230469697578.post-5710326744756975692016-12-22T22:40:06.415+07:002016-12-22T22:40:06.415+07:00Hi Peggy,

The Gong Show was as rude as it got!

LinhLinh Dinhhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00328959360983573810noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4284893230469697578.post-31004240635762825432016-12-22T12:07:57.405+07:002016-12-22T12:07:57.405+07:00Thus spake the philanthrope.
You still have some ...Thus spake the philanthrope.

You still have some illusions with you. The snow in your world for this Christmas isn't as cold as the snow in some other's world.

As for your college years, only the stupid can afford not being stupid at that age. You either are such in those years or for all life but those years.T d Ynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4284893230469697578.post-13563157291104350862016-12-22T10:48:57.990+07:002016-12-22T10:48:57.990+07:00I have never thought of self love like that but I ...I have never thought of self love like that but I see that you are right. Everyone calling everyone else names, no one listening to any one else, everyone so sure they are right and everyone else is not only wrong but stupid, too.

Thanks so much for sharing your writing with us. It helps me remember about the real Amerika.

peggyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00290554237875944404noreply@blogger.com
