Carl's Jr. EBT is Electronic Benefit Transfer, a food stamp card. There are roughly 47 million Americans on food stamps. With EBT, even a fast food joint can become a soup kitchen.
Across the street is a Bank of America, and in its parking lot was a Hispanic woman of about 40 selling a dozen crates of strawberries, mangoes and cherries.

I bet the average set meal at Carl's Jr. is around $7 (before tax) in California. One's EBT won't go far there.
