I wanted to record the relentlessly paranoid, creepy narration, but I didn't want to be reported as suspicious, then handcuffed and taken away. I mean, it was risky enough to just snap this photo. That's the new USA for you.

Surrounded by huge parking lot with few cars, half-dead Harrisburg Mall. Inside, hardly anyone seemed to be shopping. At a table in the nearly empty food court, old men played a board game brought from home. Every now and then, a jogger, or a Megabus weirdo, like me, with his 50 cent ticket. The two Vietnamese nail salons that bookended this wasted space were doing well, though, and the taxidermied beasts didn't look any deader from the last time I was here, five months ago.

Taxidermied ducks inside mostly moribund Harrisburg Mall. With their high overheads and extreme car dependency, many shopping malls are already in trouble and will soon become dinosaurs.
