Although several tunnel passages have been enlarged to accomodate beefier tourists, they are still tiny, stiflingly hot, suffocating and, of course, dark, so are mostly bypassed by visitors, who are content to peer into their entrances. Most Vietnamese tourists also shun the claustrophobic experience.
