3:06PM at Broad and Ridge, a mile from downtown. At 13th and Spruce, a very busy corner, I saw a homeless guy taking a piss right on the sidewalk, so I said to two fresh faced soldiers across the street, "Welcome to Philadelphia, right?!"
ah, two blocks from one of my first philly apartments. i can still smell it. didn't there used to be a law prohibiting the military from entering/occupying any american city? or is the pope's visit a state of emergency? i'm slightly amazed he chose humble old philly, but that's true to his image. wish i could see some of the theatrics and feel the buzz........
