Bernie's base are comfortable whites who pretend to be anti-racist while staying as far away from all minorities as possible. They also mock and despise poor whites. While heavily invested in Capitalism, many pretend to be Socialists, while their spoiled children pose as Communists.
P.S. Bernie's supporters are those who voted for Obama twice without feeling any remorse. You see, all they care about is APPEARING to do what's right.
Linh, An area of agreement is that citizens should not rely on a charismatic leader to solve all their problems. Bernie's policies have numerous areas where critcism is warranted from different perspetctives. But your tactic is to stereotype supporters of him, without factual basis, especially as younger supporters of Sanders haven't actually voted, and interact with the few minorites that can afford a college education in our military junta. So
* You don't support voting and democratic participation; * You don't support Occupy; * You don't support anarchism or absolute state authority; * From your previous statements about law enforcement issues, it can be gleaned you don't support an armed rebellion of black and Central American gangs.
So what do you suggest? Should everyone photograph the lumpenproletariat and insult those pursuing every possible avenue of changing policies overwhelmingly opposed by the public?
Cut out the bullshit, will you? I'm not advocating "photographing" or "insulting" anybody. I'm just calling out the feel good empty voting gesture that will get us more war and more corruption. Bernie is a newer version of Obama, a standee for the "progressives" to support while changing nothing.
I've articulated my stance on the American election farce several times. Here are two articles:
I'm sick of American "progressives" jerking off to their favorite bogus candidate every four years then forget about it as America destroys a few more countries in their name.
Are you saying all I've been doing is "insulting" and "photographing"?
Good answer Linh. Sanders started his candidacy supporting the Libyan war but has changed his position, and has been prodded (arguably not prodded) to supporting imperialist campaigns in Venezuela, etc. He deserves to be called out for this as a number of columnists have done.
The primary importance of what he is doing is not only attempting to defeat the extreme hawkism of Hillary and her supporters, but to change in the long term the policies of the Democratic party so younger, anti-war voters have leverage within local organization. I have never voted for Obama but the Greens and other left parties do not have one person one vote primaries, so the Democratic party has a partial opening for such a youth insurgency which the media, the superdelegates, and the Citizens United donors try to close off.
No to the last answer. You have been a more lucid and informed critic of American foreign policy than Sanders.
ps: what I said about the Greens and left parties not having one person one vote is also true of the Liberatarian party and other small government parties.
Then there's his support for economic sanction against Russia.
I'm against how these elections are run. With our corporate media, two deeply corrupt parties and unaccountable voting machines, our elections are essentially rigged.
Trump, Sanders and Clinton are simply trotted out there to absorb people's anger and passion. The military banking complex will continue to do what it wants to do.
As for Occupy, I fully supported its aim of disrupting Wall Street, but not what it evolved into, which was living in parks and demanding nothing. It became a self congratulating farce. I visited half a dozen Occupy camps, from NYC to Florida, and saw how stupid and aimless it became. I thought they would regroup and have a better strategy, but it never happened. Occupy was clearly infiltrated and steered into the ground by government agents.
I first read about Occupy on your blog. Graeber's tactic is not to make it about anything, as it's his model of 'compound association' as Fourier called it or whatever. Leaders can be bought off (like John Lewis, Andrew Young, cough cough). But the main thrust by Occupy's locale and policy papers was financial deregulation, which helped hit home what middle America was already thinking. I agree it was infiltrated as everything is.
Whether it's superpower USA or some little island somewhere, democracy requires voting and getting everyone to shout together about how it's being rigged so they can't get away with it. I don't have messianic faith in democracy and maybe the Marxists and its other critics are right, but.. And it's not your fault that there's not a candidate that represents your views, but that's true of everyone.
They will never allow a candidate who can challenge or disrupt the system. Look at what happened to Cynthia McKinney. They caricatured her in the media, then ran her out of politics altogether.
Via their beloved social media, Occupy duly broadcast what they were about to do to the government, so that the state had plenty of time to react. That's not serious resistance, man.
Well, the only way Occupy could have done more would be for more people to show up. The test of a movement isn't whether the encampments go on forever. The biggest problem with Occupy was how easy it was for the National Endowment for Democracy to copy it. Maiden protesters copying Occupy were infiltrated, the US backed Venezuelan demonstrations, Democracy Now showing anti-Qaddafi 'radical students' in an enclosed building in Libya, NED infiltrating indigenous protest groups in Ecuador to undermine that government, on and on. I voted for Cynthia in the general.
Late, but I thought I'd put my(-)$02.00 in! International Banks, Goldman Sachs, and oligarchs will never allow their Will for the US (& the planet) to be decided by mere American elections. Thanks, wish all well, and refer to article below?
Sheldon Adelson on supporting Trump: 'Why not?'

If Donald Trump is the nominee, Republican megadonor Sheldon Adelson says, “Why not" support him?
“Trump is a businessman. I am a businessman. He employs a lot of people. I employed 50,000 people. Why not?” Adelson said during a gala in Las Vegas in February.

Hi, Linh and all. Geez, I can't believe I kicked off this dust-up and then didn't get back here to join in.
Linh is correct and I loved his debate with Howdy Doodie and Ayn Rand's son. I voted Green Party last time, but maybe I'll boycott this time.
Very glad to see the agreement on the faults of Occupy. Graeber et al have not been held accountable as far as I can see for their anarchist organizing techniques.
Thanks, man. Voting legitimizes this government and all of its crimes. If you vote for, say, an alternative candidate that only gets .5% of the votes, that can be taken to prove that this candidate's ideas are fringe or freakish whereas the winner (with his or her 50%) is the voice of the people. Voting gives the appearance that this is a democracy or even a fair society.
The CIA wants Bernie's potential voters to stay home and/or be scared by his pro-military genuflections and for Hillary's to turn out in droves. The rate of voting in the US is lower than in most European countries, and the US's policies are more imperialist and corporate.

On this CrossTalk show, I went against a smirking Democratic Party lackey.

What we have isn't democracy. It's relentless mind control, then phony elections. Just about none of our national "representatives" represent us.
Via their beloved social media, Occupy duly broadcast what they were about to do to the government, so that the state had plenty of time to react. That's not serious resistance, man.
