Chinese restaurant in Daher. Pure garbage, one of the worst meals I've ever had, and I've eaten some of the foulest food in vile conditions. At a nearby table, however, sat three Malaysian Muslim women who were perfectly happy with their lunch. Students at the university in Mansoura, they're in the second of a five-year program, with all their classes in English. Though none spoke much Arabic, one was conversational in Korean and Mandarin, so she could talk to the criminal cook and even ordered tea for me.
We chattered a bit about Egypt. When I spoke negatively of Alexandria, they all laughed, with one declaring, "Wait till you see Mansura!"
They were very pleased to hear I had visited Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Malacca and Kajang. They were extremely pleasant, these ladies, but so are most Malaysians.

The Wikitravel entry for Mansour is a masterpiece of understatement. Reading between the lines it sounds pretty underwhelming.
More reason to go there, though I'm so exhausted, I'm not sure I'm up for it. My time in Egypt is about done.
Your "underwhelming" is an understatement! Even visiting a cafe is somewhat unsafe... The more I read about Mansura, the more I want to go there, such is my perversity:
"Food hygiene standards are somewhat lacking. Avoid all unsealed foods and you will avoid food poisoning [...] Hygiene standards are moderate. Stick to canned and bottled drinks. Tapwater is not guaranteed safe [...] Accommodation is scarce. This is because tourism is not a local industry [...] Entertainment venues are rare in Mansoura. Another activity could be a visit to an Ahwa (Cafe). This can be done more safely and with less hassle in Cairo however, where foreigners are not as much of a novelty."
What was so bad about that meal? The picture makes it look ok
Poor ingredients shoddily prepared. They looked OK until I had my first bite of either dish. For what I paid, I could have had a much, much better meal at any Egyptian restaurant.
I mean, the cook wasn't just criminal but anti-human and blasphemous, for to slop up such crap was a direct assault on God, nature, motherhood, fatherhood, family values and animal rights.
That cook isn't just vindictive, but sadistic. He hates all his customers with an intensity that's hard to fathom. I mean, how does he live with himself?
