Wat Phabat on 5-12-23--Pakse copy

Wat Phabat. All over Southeast Asia, you see new temples or churches being built, with old ones repaired or expanded.

Check out this one star review by Captain Vita, a local resident, "Nothing special! Not old, not beautiful and no Buddha footprint."

Here's the same crank on Taps Beer Bar, "The selection there is not good. I asked for German or European beer and they seriously said they have only one German beer. Really, 1 single German beer but tons of Australian and British IPA and Stouts? And that beer was literally the worst and most expensive German beer i ever had in my life. And i am German and i had a lot of different beers. So how can it be that in a beer bar that serves international beer theres only one German beer, which is THE beer country together with Belgium and Czech. Can only give 2 Star because of the good service."

He's in a provincial city of a very poor country, and he's bitching about some bar having just one German beer! Do they have Beerlao in Germany?

There's an Irishman in my hotel who loves Beerlao, as does Coredo the Italian restaurant owner.

Update: I just found out Taps Beer Bar is in Kuala Lumpur, a major city, so Captain Vita had more reasons to complain. Still, he does sound like an insufferable crank. Malaysia is a Muslim country, so beer drinking is not a popular activity there!

Some of the best moments of traveling are when there is a total lack of things familiar. That German would be much cooler if he complained that there were too many European beers and not enough Southeast Asian brands.
