Linh, your musings from 2011 are very thought-provoking. I have never known the rules to American Football and I did not know yards gained was a metric! Your deconstruction of the word "cool" is incisive; I will think twice before using that word now.

Hi Anonymous,

Check out this typical boxscore from a recent game and here's an archive of the entire series between those two teams. No other country does this with any of its sports! No one comes even close!

Such thorough record keeping about a game, eh, but see if you can find a record of how many Iraqis have been killed since the Americans invaded?

P.S. Actually, I shouldn't have said "typical," because the standard boxscore is shorter, though still long enough. What I'm trying to say is, Americans are obsessive about quantifying every little fact about its sports, while numbers about its wars and economy are either fudged, spun or ignored!

That was me, by the way. I'm still used to clicking on "Anonymous."

Anyway, I just finished your 2012 and 2013 pieces as well. It's funny how things continue. In 2013, it was McCain and his monkey comment. And then we had "We are ready for Hillary!"'s comment "We came, we saw, he died!" And then it was the movie about assassinating Kim Jong-un; no saint figure to be sure but would we tolerate a movie from North Korea about killing foreign leaders in other countries?

With what audacity can this movie be called a "comedy?" Why is there so much glee over the taking of another human's life?

It's sad, in a depressing sort of way, really.

Well, obviously. Who cares how many died? It's not like their lives mattered ...
