Lang Ky Restaurant on 4-14-12--Vung Tau copy

Lăng Ký Chinese Restaurant. Very mediocre, actually, and I'll tell you why. Chinese food in Vietnam tends to be bastardized to begin with. After the Communist takeover in 1975, many Chinese were also chased away, for being rich Capitalists, and also because of the war with China in 1978. With them went much of Chinese culture in Vietnam, especially in the south. Now, many Chinese and Taiwanese are in Vietnam to do business, but they're not in Vung Tau. In Saigon, there are a handful of first rate Chinese restaurants, and Nha Trang also had some to serve Chinese tourists, at least before Covid.

An indication of how lousy this place is are these two reviews by Vietnamese. "Good food and can be namely as best in town. Traditional cuisine in term of mix vietnamese and chinese (actually we are same same lol lol)." The guy thinks Vietnamese and Chinese cuisines are "same same"! Second reviewer, "Very nice place for try Vietnamese Traditional lunch or dinner. This food shop is owned by Chinese people living long time in Vietnam but their Vietnamese food very nice and supper." This guy thinks he's eating Vietnamese food at a Chinese restaurant.
