GulPH-WAR-VET--Center-City

45-years-old, he spent four years in the airborne, serving in Kossovo, Kuwait and Yemen. He was laid off from Netlink a year and a half ago, after which he sent out between 150 and 200 applications, with no results. A Wawa manager said, "You made 50, 60 thousand dollars a year in the past. You won't take this job seriously." He became homeless in July, so finding a job is harder than ever. Twice a week he goes to the mission to shave and clean up, and he stops in the library every now and then to wait his turn to use the computer, but no interview offers have come. In september, he applied for a $300 a month housing suppliment from the VA, so he's hoping that will work out soon.

He is from Mayfair, a solidly working class neighborhood of small business owners, contractors, cops and firemen, etc. He has two kids, 12 and 14 years old, from a failed marriage.

"Do they know that their dad is on the streets?" I asked.

"Yes."

Our conversation came to a close when a cop told him to move on.
