Ron, 60 years old, has been homeless for seven years. During his senior year in high school, he got into a car accident which left him in a body cast, and which has caused him lifelong health problems. He managed to get a college degree but only taught auto mechanics for a year, then became a preacher. For 11 years, he traveled all over the country for the Masons, he said, though it wasn't clear what he was doing for them. In this capacity, he got as far as Los Angeles and Billings, Montana, but he never made it to Juneau, as he was supposed to. He went to Florida seven times, Vermont eight times. Ron was married for 11 years, and has four kids, but Ron's wife divorced him because of his infidelity. He has no idea where his children are. "They could walk right by you, and they wouldn't know this was their dad!" I said. "I think I could recognize them," he responded.
