The diet of Mexico is designed for rural labor.. meat, cheese, sugar, carbs, fried food, traditions of scarcity leading to gorging; it is often cruel to urban dwellers. The worst aspects of US food and food marketing have arrived with NAFTA. Mass produced beverages contain enormous amounts of sugar. My own observation of the dearth of green vegetables was exaggerated a bit by ignoring lettuce, etc. that I feared could get me sick but I was reduced to canned peas and cacti. Cacti is great tho. There is certainly less grassland for growth of vegetables as much of the country is mountain and desert.
