This part of South Philly has seen a recent influx of hipsters, so it's cooler than before, but it's still essentially Italian. Two blocks from this photo is Filitalia International, an Italian cultural center founded by my landlord, the good doctor Pasquale Nestico, who came here from Calabria. On the streets, you can still hear Italian occasionally, though it was English I heard today when I walked past two Italian ladies closing their adjacent shops.
"I'll see you tomorrow."
"If God's willing. If not, goodbye!"
