US uses North Korea missile threat to encircle China

Iran's Press TV, 11/6/13:

The United States is using the perceived threat of North Korea’s ballistic missile to encircle China with missiles and military bases, a political analyst says.

“This threat is not real. The United States is using the North Korean bogeyman to stay militarily relevant in the region,” Vietnamese-American author Linh Dinh said in a phone interview with Press TV on Wednesday.

“Its primary aim is to contain China, to encircle China with its missiles based in allied countries. Further, any military tension helps to sell American weapons, since the US is by far the world’s biggest arms dealer,” he added.

He made the remarks after the commander of the US Pacific Command, Adm. Samuel Locklear, said on Tuesday the United States is prepared to counter North Korea’s intercontinental ballistic missile threat.

Dinh said that North Korea has no incentive to send an intercontinental ballistic missile to the United States as it would mean a “national suicide” for Pyongyang.

“The idea that North Korea would suddenly send a missile to Los Angeles or Seattle, for example, is ridiculous, for it has no incentive to do that,” he said.

“As soon as it does that, it would be committing national suicide and be completely destroyed in retaliation,” the analyst said. “Further, a North Korean missile would be blown up en route anyway.”

He also noted that the US is using North Korea for “propaganda purposes.”

“The United States is in such bad shape economically, however, that many Americans are already tired of hearing about North Korea or the ‘Asia Pivot’. They have much more urgent issues to take care of, such as putting food on their own table,” Dinh concluded.
