The US National Security Agency’s electronic surveillance program is aimed at preventing “coordinated action against the criminal US government”, a political analyst says.

The NSA spying program “keeps everyone docile and isolated, so that no coordinated action against this criminal government is possible,” Linh Dinh told Press TV on Sunday.

“What’s most interesting is that people are volunteering to be tracked because they’re addicted to social networking, not to mention their addiction to various machines, for we live in a world dominated by machines, with people reduced to being mere appendages of these machines. ” Dinh said.

“What’s unusual about the American spying program is its unprecedented reach, for it is attempting to monitor every sort of electronic communication by everyone, anywhere,” he added.

“If you’re a politician, even a foreign politician, the NSA will have knowledge of your private life, and if you’re a lowly private citizen, the NSA will know if you harbor rebellious thoughts or plans, if you’re talking to others about protesting or rebelling.”

According to a newly leaked NSA document, the US spy agency has infiltrated the servers of Chinese telecommunications and internet giant Huawei, obtaining sensitive information about the company’s of top executives and Chinese Officials.

The 2010 NSA document was provided to the New York Times and German magazine, Der Spiegel by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden who since last year has leaked data revealing that the US systematically spies on phone calls and online activities of millions of people worldwide.

Earlier this month, Human Rights Watch said intelligence gathering by the NSA violates fundamental civil rights, including the right to privacy.
