Evie in front of The Saint on 7-21-15--Northern Liberties

Front and Girard, in front of Saint Lazarus. This is on the edge of Northern Liberties, with Fishtown just across the street. At The Saint, a small pitcher of Rolling Rock is only $4, with price slashed by half during happy hour. I got there at four, so ordered a pitcher of Kenzinger for $5. It's brewed maybe half a mile away. I hadn't drank Kenzinger in 20 years so forgot that it's slop.

Vampire is Evie. She studied at Hussian School of Art and is now a floral designer. The dude, I can't remember his name, said he was a floor designer, probably as a joke. He had this blase, hipster demeanor the whole time, and everything was meant as ironic or just nonsensical.

After photo, we dragged our teeth and necks back inside.

Since Evie studied art, I asked who are her favorite artists, and she said Leonardo and Monet.

"What about contemporary artists?"

"I don't like any of them."

"Do you paint?"

"Yeah."

"Oil?"

"Yeah."

"What do you paint?"

"The figure."

"Male? Female?"

"Female."

"Always?"

"Yeah."

"Why?"

"I just think they're more beautiful."

"Hmmm. If you're an artist, then you should see beauty even in ugly bodies, you know what I mean?"

"Yeah, I know," Evie smiles.

"So you can appreciate even an ugly body?" I grinned.

"Yeah, I've been with all kinds. Even 300 pounds!"

I laughed, "You are beautiful!"

"Thank you!"

Alexis was the bartender, and she gave me some zucchini planted in her own garden. I dipped it into the white sauce. "Hey, this is pretty damn good!"

During happy hour, a bottle of Guinness is only $2 at The Saint.

Fishtown used to be this mean-assed part of town, but gentrification is creeping up that way. Twenty years ago, I knew a guy who got whacked in the face with a piece of 2 x 4. The bridge of his glasses was driven into his skull. That's one way to never misplace your eyewear, I suppose.

Too funny, Linh! This morning you have made me gaseous with laughter. BTW, men with beautiful bodies are usually worse than useless, in my experience. Not always, though.

in that neighborhood, or kensington, north of girard i think around maybe 10th, my friend and i were in his car, him driving. he'd turned it off. i won't say why we were there. anyway, half a block up from around the corner comes a very scary dude, straight for us, walking nonchalantly and swinging a golf iron which he would catch in his other hand. at first the car wouldn't start, then my friend screeched high speed in a wide berth around the fucker. i believe he would have killed us
