Once a Christian theology student asked my opinion of a ceramic Buddha head she prized in her house. It did have an attractive turquoise glaze. Then I explained how colonialism and its art thieves originally stole tbe heads from sacred Buddhist temples, and also how for a Buddhist it can be awkward to see the severed head of a Buddha statue, even while it remains an object of respect. Imagine, I suggested, displaying a severed head of Jesus Christ as a home ornament. Still, it is said that even looking at a Buddha image with aversion brings a blessing tothe viewer.

Hi Bhikshuni Trinlae,

There were a few sitting Buddhas in this Woolworth as well, all sold as home or garden ornaments. Not wanting to disturb store employee or other customers, I took this quickly then resumed shopping. I bought a few household items.

It's a great shot, thanks. I think I've seen the same statutes in the 99c only store in LA, and I've even seen some in Kathmandu! On the whole, I am glad there are consumers who will give them a home!
