the rap culture here is pretty funny. all the white boys love it. lots of younger ones wear the just shit my pants look. also the gritty, urban glorification--it is true, it does LOOK like a similar (and truly terrifying) american urban landscape, the housing projects, the desolateness, the graffiti, but the similarities end there. it's actually very white, very safe, very polite, very boring. but they just love that look. anyone here would find themselves shitting their pants in no time in the heart of the philadelphia, baltimore, d.c. or chicago ghetto. but fatboy slim needs a cool backdrop to his life, ditto all the celebrities here. the greatest news of all is that none of this has in any way effected english music. it is, was, and will continue to be a music of death. to be a musician here is simply to be a businessman like any other, something i actually figured out in my wasted youth (they all seemed insincere, the old british invasion, excepting perhaps john lennon).
