Necesitamos un trabajadora sign at bakery--Italian Markert

At the fish monger across the street, it's "SE NECESITA AYUDANTE." Americans who don't have to compete for these low paying jobs often accuse those who do of being racist when they complain about illegal immigration, but illegal immigration hurts poor Americans of all colors, especially legal Hispanics and blacks.

In "Thus spake Zarathustra," Nietzsche asserted that resentment is the least explored of the primary human motivations. He said there are certain types of people who can't improve their own place in the world, and so they devote all their energies to tearing others down. Nietzsche called them "tarantulas."

People only differ (by degree & intensity) as to how much "tarantula" exists in themselves.

For example, a part time (Scranton area based) strawberry picker might resent those who work part time at Convenient Markets. A "go nowhere" school bus driver who owes a couple thousand to the IRS might resent those who could hide money in off shore Cayman Island accounts. Intelligent and brave 9/11 "Truthers" might resent editors who are not that way.

I admire Nietzsche for discussing resentment in general, and the tarantula-type harm it can do to a person's character. Thank you all.

Chuck,

I don't resent any editor, I'm contemptuous of the ones who dodge important questions. Further, I don't dwell on this contempt, but move on, since I'm preoccupied with serious issues. This blog isn't about emotions, but clarification of issues.

Also, I don't care if people are smart or stupid, but I will call out those who use their intelligence to confuse, deceive or mislead, thus my contempt for certain editors and writers. Resentment implies I'm envious of these people, and that's absurd. Contempt is the exact opposite of resentment.

Also, most people hate stupidity, including their own, so to point out stupidity is not the same as hating stupid people. I don't hate stupid people. I hate stupidity, including my own.

Linh: Try this syllogism?

Fire in a city is a serious thing.

Serious people get emotional & ask serious questions on how the fire started.

Government fire "experts" investigate issues, and make public clarification.

Some people distrust & have contempt for government "experts," many do not.

Some bookish people shut-off home fire alarm bells, cities burn, & they're safe.

People who dare come too close to describing a fire's real cause, get burned.

Heroic people get singed for expressing unabated contempt for different others.

Once again, a serious fire "preoccupies" another US city!

Nothing changes until trusted "experts" get their feet put to-the-Nero-fire.

150 year old German SPD party (which Rosa Luxembourg joined and then despaired of) is dying. They are in coalition gov't with Merkel, whose immigration policies are very unpopular. http://www.politico.eu/article/the-fall-and-fall-of-german-social-democracy-german-regional-elections-spd-malu-dreyer-sigmar-gabriel/

What are Merkel's policies based on? Is it fear of turning into Greece? Well, I think we're all headed for Greece, sooner or later. Unless the "left" returns to its base and starts mobilizing them on their strength.

Hi, all.

If you watch this (esp. from minute 23), the economist Michael Hudson (with Chris Hedges) lays out the case I was trying to set forth above about the left getting its act together. http://therealnews.com/t2/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=31&Itemid=74&jumival=16000
