Over 900,000 Dominicans moved to the NYC area during a currency devaluation in the late 90s.. kinda mind boggling, and it wasn't a news item in the mainstream US press.

Yo Ian,

Washington Heights is the biggest ethnic neighborhood left in Manhattan, and it's mostly Dominican. It is remarkable. With all of its restaurants, expanding Chinatown is more visible than Washington Heights, but the latter appears to have many more residents. If I'm wrong, do tell me...

No I think you're right. 207th Street has a neighborhood feeling that one rarely sees in US cities, a transplanted Santo Domingo. Teenagers hanging around the laundromat, produce and flower vendors, everyone on a paseo in the evening.
