The village stream is used for bathing and washing vegetables, yet it has trash in and around it, including a pile right beneath a "NO DUMPING" sign. Above, you can see a used bottle of shampoo. Every so often, school children are sent out to clean up, but the trash will soon appear again.

Five years ago, you couldn't give land away here, but thanks to a new road, the village's economy has been much improved.

Yesterday, I talked to a retired colonel who spent seven years in Cambodia. Of the war against the Khmer Rouge, he said the Vietnamese made a huge mistake in not blocking their escape, which allowed them to run into Thailand. Fighting the Khmer Rouge, the Vietnamese encroached nearly 40 miles into Thailand.
