Though the literary festival went exceptionally well, there were some minor glitches and annoyances. As the main organizer, Sally Breen was under tremendous stress, understandably. This night, though, Sally also gave one hell of a poetry reading, so as she griped about something, I just said, "Sally, you kicked fuckin' ass tonight! You scared the fuck out of me, so you should feel great! You did great!"
Vinita Agrawal, Siddhart Dasgupta, Anand Thakore and Joe Milan Jr. also gave exceptional readings that night. Anand Thakore read an amazing poem about Constantinople just before it was conquered and, well, raped by the Turks.
