For a haircut, shave and clipping of hair protruding from nose, he charged me $1.25. Though tipping is not customary in Cambodia, I gave him an extra $1.25, which he clearly appreciated. The average monthly salary in Stung Treng is only about $150.
Before coming up here, I checked the bus fare at two places, and it was the same, $15. When I finally bought my ticket, the guy shortchanged me by $5. He charged me $20. When I caught this, he said my ticket was VIP, but I said no, it's only $15, so he gave me the remaining five.
During 8 weeks over three visits, that was the only time someone tried to cheat me in Cambodia, so not bad at all.
