Woman on the left is a Khmer Krom, meaning she's a Cambodian from southern Vietnam. It belonged to the Khmers for roughly two thousand years. I've met several Khmer Kroms who have relocated to Cambodia proper.

That said, Khmer Kroms aren't necessarily racially pure. Many have Vietnamese and/or Chinese blood.
