Pho Lanekham, and I'm staying at Lankham Hotel. Both are owned by the same Vietnamese family. The woman on the left was born in Laos, and so were her parents. Only her grandparents were born in Vietnam, and they arrived here in "buffalo carts," when the French ruled Indochina.
This morning at Pho Lanekham, most of the customers wore the same Hawaiian shirt with green palm trees and yellow flowers. I thought they were a tour group from Vietnam, but it turned out they were workers at a Vietnamese owned rubber plantation. They have today off since it's Lao New Year.
Vietnamese kids in Pakse have their own kindergartens and elementary school, where they're taught in Vietnamese. After that, they enter Lao schools.
