At Subinh Hotel, a thick rice gruel with bits of crab, shrimp, fish, a tiny oyster and an egg for 30,000 kips [$1.70]. A nice touch are those slivers of ginger. This is definitely Lao, and very different from any Vietnamese or Chinese rice gruel. It's excellent.
