Another nightmare bus journey, it's a long way to Pakse. Domestic air fares are relatively inexpensive in Lao, less than an hour to Pakxe, but why go there again. Savannakhet is much more interesting, second largest city in Lao with many French colonial buildings, a magnificent backdrop of mountains and on the banks of the Mekhong river with the town of Muhkdahan in Thai on the opposite side.
