10 yrs ago my town had a few homeless guys around, mostly alcoholics and mentally ill. As homeless advocates started building shelters, kitchens, clinics, etc. the number of homeless has exploded. Now 19-yr-old healthy youngsters can be found in doorways downtown daily. It is an industry. Every lumber store, restaurant, factory, etc. posts job openings but why work when retirement is there at 19? The truly needy are lost in the crowds.
