Ian, Linh. I try to guage which way public opinion is being formulated for a shindig like this. Finger tappin' over to Counterpunch for brain food we see the "Five Things To Remember About Catalonia". The word transcendent is right up front here so get ready. The pitch includes the famous "International law provides a legal basis for both self-determination and unilateral secession" at number four. That sounds good (without thinking too much or asking questions.) Sold! Their self-determination is bigger than their self-determination. When the media flavors with spices of simplistic emotion - concepts of immigrants, race, feminity, sex, machismo and seny to hide the fight over the ol' nasties like property rights - folks just gotta swoon and hang banners and get a sex change maybe.
Current PM Rojoy represents the same voting block as Franco, Catalonia's worst nemesis. He is the hand-picked successor of Aznar, who's main issue was to play himself up as the guardian against the ETA threat, but Rojoy lost in 2004 when Aznar tried to blame the Madrid bombings on ETA despite evidence to the contrary.

Nor should it be the same
Yo Ian,
Someone in Tarragon said, "After October 1st, Madrid will bring the tanks in!"
