During one week in Cambodia, I went to just one American bar, the Lone Star, because I had read it served chicken fried steak, something I had eaten all over the US, most memorably in San Antonio, Wolf Point and Richmond. Arriving, I found out Lone Star also had fried okra, with I ordered along with mashed potato. Nothing came out quite right, however. The previous owner is from Dallas. The current one, a very friendly man with tons of stories to tell, is an Aussie. For a decade, he ran casinos on cruise ships.

My sympathy -- it is a genuine bummer to have a craving for a certain kind of food, find it (in perhaps an unlikely place), order it, and then be disappointed -- I had the same experience with a barbecue pulled pork sandwish -- but now as they say: forewarned is forearmed.
