In the late 90's, I was hanging out with the painter Nguyễn Quân in some Alphabet City bar in the East Village. Quân said, "Vietnamese women are very beautiful, but Vietnamese men, they're so ugly."

If we used ourselves as examples, Quân's observation was certainly true. If Quân is still alive, he'd be in Saigon, but I haven't seen him in 20 years.

That night, Quân also told me that a Pekinese makes the best dog meat, since it's not tough, like bigger, more athletic dogs, and its small size is also ideal for feeding six people.
