A native of Thừa Thiên, the laughing fisherman hopped a train at age 14 to reach the Central Highlands, 260 miles away. Doing all sorts of work, he made enough money to bring his parents down, get married, buy land and build a house, plus a shack near a lake where he fishes. He has two fine children, and the sweetest granddaughter, whom I hold and carry around every chance I get.
