A local woman told me that when she went to Saigon as a kid, the other kids asked her if she rode an elephant to school. When you say Dak Lak in Vietnam, people immediately think of coffee and elephants. In more than three months here, I have not see one live elephants, only concrete ones.
Raising elephants, the Rade had to take them into the jungle to breed, for they refused to couple in captivity.
Soon, the only elephants left will be in parks for tourists and zoos, and Vietnamese zoos have a pretty poor reputation.
