Just in case you think it's all bucolic here. There is way too much garbage, so the government must do something. There are laws against littering, but I haven't met anyone who's been fined for it. In Cambodia, the garbage situation is getting out of control, and in Laos, it's bad too. By contrast, Thailand is very clean, so it can be accomplished. The Chinese used to have a reputation for being dirty, but look at Singapore today, or Hong Kong.
