Vietnamese restaurant in Chungmu-dong. This section of Busan, Jung-gu, has the highest crime rate in all of South Korea, but it's still infinitely safer than any American city.
Woman in restaurant, "A guy came in to ask if we would sell him a glass of beer, but I said no. We only sell bottles, not glasses."
When I showed up, they likely thought I was some Korean bum, because their initial reception was not at all friendly.
At a Bujeon Market eatery the other day, a woman thought I was Japanese, so she kept chirping "arigato!" as she served me. This, after I had told her I was Vietnamese. As I left, she smilingly shouted, "Konichiwa!"
In Korea, it's not exactly great to be confused for a Japanese, and this has happened to me several times, but it's no big deal, really.
