Silver donkkaseu restaurant in Suan-dong with lots of images of a more innocent America--Busan

A Silver Restaurant in Suan-dong. It's a chain specializing in donkkaseu [tonkatsu], which the Japanese brought over. Tonkatsu/donkkaseu is a variation of the German wiener schnitzel. Here in Korea, it's often eaten with rice and shredded cabbage topped with a dressing of mayonnaise and ketchup.

I encountered my first Silver in Yangsan, and what caught my eye were all the images on its walls evoking a much more innocent America. It's a nostalgia for an America seen in old movies.

In Japan, the chain Jonathan's also evokes an America of more than half a century ago.
