Although Zemun has been incorporated into Belgrade, its inhabitants still consider their town to be separate. Zemun is a river away from old Belgrade, and though abutting New Belgrade, it's entirely different from it. Unlike that sterile and harsh Socialist project, Zemun is traditional, lively and warm.
The biggest blight in Zemun is that horrible Hotel Yugoslavija, once the pride of the Socialist regime. It is on its fringe, however, so is hardly a part of this lovely town.
