Of all challenges to transcendence, torture (especially "constant") is with few peers. The strength of spirit to abandon physical and mental "needs" is an advanced stage, but the (seemingly) relentless and ever-presence of the worst "negative stimuli" (the superset of pain) requires a commitment that is beyond all words--as are the eternal rewards for choosing so.
