Be Still Cafe in Klein Windhoek on 11-16-21--Windhoek copy

$2 cappucino at Be Still Cafe in Klein Windhoek. It's owned by Trevor Cormack, coach of the Namibian field hockey team. He employs some of the players at this cafe so they can earn a litte cash. There is very little money for sports in Namibia.

I met one of the players, Nicolai Hilbert. Twenty-years-old, he grew up in a rural area north of Windhoek, then went to school on the coast, before moving to Windhoek two years ago to train with the national team. He's traveled to South Africa to play, and will go to Ghana next.

With just 2.5 million people, Namibia struggles to be competitive in any sport. In five matches against South Africa this year, Namibia lost 5:0, 6:0, 3:0, 2:1 and 7:0. South Africa is ranked 12th in the world.

Nicolai plays for the love of the sport, he indicated by touching his heart.

Nicolai talked to four people at the next table in German. It's his first language, apparently, for when he showed me some photos on his phone, I noticed "suchen" on the key pad.
