Yesterday, I went with a group to do a food drop deep in the jungle north west of Chiang Rai(I’d post photos if I could), for local tribal villages, and even there I was my dumb ass sarcastic self commenting on lawn care. Sorry, but sometimes just a knucklehead.
Well, the teacher got her ass fired for not going to work. Talking to me, she was clear and articulate enough, but she's a bit delirious. We're all insane to some degree anyway.
I mean, if I was just fired, I'd not indignantly show my termination letter to a stranger. Not only that, she wanted me to photograph it!
For giving me this spontaneous tour and filling me on the history of the neighborhood, I bought her a beer and gave her some grocery money, which she certainly appreciated.
Just a couple of years before COVID the Thai Baht had an increase in value. This led to Europeans looking for holidays else were(esp Turkey) for better value vacations - so tourists in this area slowed. Then came COVID and problems increased ten fold. The tribals who depended on a stream of tourist income certainly went/are hungry, The one village was so desperate they begged and took 60% of what we had and was ready for more, and we had 5+ villages to go. Nevertheless, people were nice and very patient. I think we will do the same sometime soon. Have some photos available if interested.

Nice lawn.
We're in the desert here, and these people don't even have running water, man. Same as the poorest in South Africa.

Hi Biff,
How desperate are the tribal people in northwest Thailand? What's the economy there like, with Covid?
Two years ago, I was among the Rade in Vietnam. Their lives were improving economically, then Covid came.
