Warriors on door at Vat Haysoke with boy walking by on 7-15-23--Vientiane copy

Warriors on door at Vat Haysoke. Soon after this, a barking dog ran towards me. Normally, I would pick up a rock or pretend I had a rock in one hand. Just acting like I was about to throw something would have chased him away. In my sad, hobbling condition, I had to appease rather than intimidate, so I made a wai salute. Leave me the fuck alone, man. I'm not a threat to anybody.

Please be extra cautious when you go into a Theravada Buddhist temple. In that region, monks raise attack dogs to guard their property. Three years ago I walked into a temple in Da Nang and was followed by a bunch of menacing dogs, at least four of them. Sensing that I might be in danger, I stopped and stood still, then stepped forward very slowly and very quietly, but the moment I turned my back, one lunged at me and sank its teeth into my leg. All happened in a fraction of a second. After that, I received five rabies shots. Never walked into that or another Theravada temple again.
