Nguyễn Hoàng Triệu. His given name, Triệu, means "million." It's derived from the Chinese 兆. A Vietnamese boy can also be called Giàu [Rich], Phú [Wealth] or Đạt [to attain or achieve]. For a man named million, Triệu has next to nothing, and he's actually called Cu, a goofy nickname meant for kids. Cu means penis.
I call him anh [brother], ông [mister] or xếp [boss]. The last is derived from the French chef.
Xếp must wear shades all the time because his eyes hurt from an undiagnosed condition. Doctors here are so bad any professional treatment might make it worse. Cambodians routinely consult pharmacists for whatever ails them. Xếp pops pills, which helps.
