Very good phở for $3 at May Bakery. "Phở" on a smallish sign is the only indication that May is a Vietnamese restaurant, and it's also the only Viet eatery in town. At the market, there are several stands serving Viet dishes, but modified for Cambodians.
At May, I met a manager from a rubber plantation 75 miles away. From Long An in southern Vietnam, he's been working in Cambodia for 12 years. His boss is an ethnic Chinese Vietnamese-Australian. At the isolated plantation, there are cooks to make Cambodian meals for everybody, so an occasional trip to May for a bowl of phở is a very special treat for this man.
