Of your books, which would you recommend to read first?

Hi Chet,

Perhaps the first one listed, Stressed, Blighted or Circumscribed Lives. There are many ordinary people depicted. In Obscured Americans, many people talk about their lives. Kafka, Anti-Semite focuses on cultural figures, whether writers, film directors or pop singers. Racing Races talks about races and nations, but the essays in it are also travel pieces.

Unless you're interested in contemporary poetry, Blue Threads is probably not for you. Before being canceled, I was known primarily as a poet, however, and much of my anthologized writing is poetry. I was once paid over a thousand bucks for just one poem.

Hi Linh,

Bought it: Stressed, Blighted.

Your essays and/or stories are as far-ranging as anything I've read, and so I look forward to the book and regret not having the means of buying all of them right now.

For whatever reason, I'm indifferent to poetry, although I used to illustrate poems over 10 or 15 years.

Amazing how money varies over a particular work. For a short story I probably received about a third of what you did for your poem but more than I've ever received for a novel. I suppose the direction is that the shorter anything is, the more it is worth, and so whoever could write in subatomic particles would be immensely wealthy.

Cheers, --Chet
