I find signs like this suspicious. Should I call the number?

Hi Patricia,

Yes, you should definitely call and report this suspicious sign!

‘Look up, speak up’ – I hadn’t seen that one before; maybe the old ‘if you see something, say something’ mantra is losing its bite - whatever.

Anyway…

On April 9 in the Theodore Levin District Courthouse in Detroit I did see something that deserves mention: I witnessed Doreen Hendrickson get sentenced to 18 months in prison for contempt of court. A common-or-garden contempt of court charge usually doesn’t warrant more mention than that, but this case was unusual, because Doreen had been held in contempt for not obeying an order of the court to perjure herself. I’ve proofread that last phrase to make sure it says what I meant it to say.

Also, at the conclusion of the trial “the jury was instructed NOT to consider the Constitution of the United States while considering the verdict. They were told, “It is not a defense to the crime of contempt that the court order was unlawful or unconstitutional.””

So what I saw at the sentencing of Doreen Hendrickson was not only remarkable; it was also a bit scary.

I guess I should say something, but to whom?
