Linh: This picture made me sad, because it brought back late-170s memories from when I was a Teamster dockworker at Roadway Express, Inc. break bulk terminal located in Tannersville, PA -- the heart of Pocono Mountains.
Those days, I'd sometimes drive back and forth to work, starting from Taylor home and do an 1-hour drive to Tannersville.
One cold and icy early morning, all alone, and driving my V.W. "bug" on way to work, I stopped at corner of Main & Washburn Street in order to buy a New York Times. Walked inside the corner store and the owner stood ready for me to say hello and pay for the newspaper. A very unfortunate girl entered with some aplomb, perhaps in her late-twenties, and who strangely dressed in her wedding gown & veil! Both showed signs of age, yellowed to obvious degree.
Suddenly, for no reason, she started to vent anger at me, and accused me of "jilting her from the altar"! So frantic, the poor girl started to scream & threaten me, and consequently shaken, I fled from store and could not get the V.W. shifted into 1st gear fast enough.
Upon next stop at the store, the owner validated her story about getting jilted, and he said, "the poor thing does this every couple months, Chuck." Anyway, a couple years ago, I wrote a poem called "The Bride not to be" which got posted on a couple web sites.
Again, I am sincerely sad to see your photograph and having learned how canceled weddings can even become faddish & a way to generate revenue. Thank you!
