Or more probably "chinese-cambodian", the chinese have been associated with Cambodia
for a long time, some of the early history of Cambodia was written down by Chinese.
The Viets are a more recent interaction but, if you have an open mind about the
histories of this "Indo-China" region I have been looking at this since the early 80's.

I know all that, Lyle, but Kim Ly is 100% a Vietnamese spelling, with Kim meaning metal or gold, and Ly is actually Lý, or Lee in English.

Yes, no argument there, and the Chinese have been in business in Vietnam for a long time
also, It's the same Chinese names in both countries. The French gave the Vietnamese their
written language, before that the literate classes wrote in Chinese characters.
I have a friend here whose name is Ly Ly, pronounced Lee Lee and is of Chinese descent.
